uitnodiging

Official opening
Thursday August 16, 2012 at 19.00h

From June 20 until August 11, 2012 two Dutch artists, Wim Vonk and Marja van Putten from Amsterdam and one artist of Surinamese origin, Isidoor Wens living and working in Den Bosch (NL), worked in Botopasi. Isidoor Wens founded the international artist residency ARTCEB in his native village Botopasi in Suriname. For the second time there were foreign artists living and working in the interior of Suriname. For the remote village a great opportunity to come into contact with contemporary art and working close with it. Together this results in a challenging, exciting and sometimes confrontational source of energy.

For the two Dutch artists, Wim Vonk and Marja van Putten it is a great experience to live and work for 2 months in this isolated Maroon village. Due to the unfamiliar culture, everyday life with the inhabitants of the village, the overwhelming presence of the forest, the daily rhythm in the heat, the rain, the rising water of the river, all these elements determined the working in this intensive time in Botopasi. For Isidoor Wens it is also a return to his youth, although more than once was proved that that time no longer exists as such. This lost time is even more true in the stories he tells daily. He mourns and observes and tries his to communicate these feelings through his work. He talks about "being lost" in his own village, between his own perceptions and local realities.

You are cordially invited to a contemporary art exhibition featuring new work by the international artists Wim Vonk, Marja van Putten and Isidoor Wens. Created on-site at artcenter Botopasi (ARTCEB) in Suriname. The exhibition will show:
