Lecture by Rommert Boonstra
PhotoFinish will be a presentation of black & white photos. Artists will be printing out directly on the spot exceptionally large black & white photos of approx. 1.50 x 1 meters. The subject matter will be human figures. There are lectures and workshops besides the presentations. Among other things a lecture about staged photography by Rommert Boonstra. A well known representative of staged photography in The Netherlands.



Working in a darkroom and the work of black & white photography in general is threatening to become an endangered form of imagery. In this digital era computers and printers are becoming easy and appropriate tools for some people who want to work with photography.

This is not the case for everyone. We want to write with light ourselves and did not want to relinquish control over to computers and printers. Just like regular tradesmen we will be going to the darkroom in this project to work and create something unique. The simple pleasure of doing, the feeling of making and creating. Searching for our own hand signature, the only hand to come between light and dark. The experts are scarce. We want to oppose the dwindling of the dark room experience.

For this project a dark room was created at Artots to experiment with the printing of large formatted photos.
